Rooted in the town’s wood-building heritage, its climate-friendly timber structure—with a low life cycle impact—reintroduces meadow landscapes to reconnect visitors with local history and serve as a welcoming city entry point. The flexible, multi-functional design integrates seamlessly into the urban fabric, offering specialized entrances that lead to a library with an inviting atrium and scenic views, an art gallery and studio enhanced by an illuminated sculpture park, and cultural and youth programs featuring an outdoor stage and amphitheater. A ground-floor meeting room and accessible garage further support community events, making the culture house a modern landmark that unites generations, fosters lifelong learning, and bolsters Ulricehamn’s climate resilience.
‘Uti vår hage’ ("Out in Our Meadow") is a stunning proposal that welcomes visitors with entrances from all directions. Cultural activities will unfold in a beautifully designed indoor and outdoor setting. The building’s four volumes extend the character of Storgatan, while space-efficient floor plans minimize the footprint. The proposal balances the city's scale and the ambition for an inviting public space for cultural life. Its modest scale and respect for Ulricehamn’s wooden heritage ensure a natural fit for the site - creating a meaningful addition to the community.
