The public-private divide

At the tip of Redmolen Harbor, Third Nature embarks on an ambitious project that transcends architectural boundaries. By providing a seamless design across the pier, our design blends inside and outside, giving users and visitors a generous experience. Framed by water on three sides, a prestigious building and urban space are taking shape to gracefully conclude the transition from historical Østerbro and Århusgadekvarteret towards Øresund. A lush landscape forms a generous foundation beneath a captivating circular structure, destined to stand as a poetic beacon on Copenhagen's skyline.

The overarching vision of the project is to create a building that signals openness, resilience, and dynamism, establishing a vibrant hub in the city where urban life can thrive year-round in synergy with the forthcoming residents and businesses on Redmolen. The ground floor's grand qualities must be accessible to all, transforming into a city attraction. The project generously aligns with PFA's fundamental desire for the building to exude friendliness, transparency, and warmth while becoming a landmark in the harbor for years to come—a place to savor ice cream in the old customs building, gazing at the magnificent views of Øresund and Copenhagen's towers. Welcome to Redmolen tip.

PFA, with ownership of 57,000 square meters of building rights on Redmolen in Århusgadekvarteret in Nordhavn, is actively developing the 26,000-square-meter office project at the point. Redmolen Point features a 60-meter-high office building and a base containing outward-facing functions, surrounded by urban spaces with greenery and seating. The old customs building on-site is retained, and a publicly accessible winter garden on the ground floor aims to establish a new year-round destination in conjunction with the new urban space.

A Landmark of Connectivity

The building’s circular form integrates seamlessly with the surrounding repurposed silo structures, enhancing the district’s and harbor’s distinctive character. By eliminating a defined front and back, the design ensures a recognizable landmark from any perspective - an architectural statement that fosters openness and connection.

At street level, the building invites public life with shops, restaurants, cafés, and exhibition spaces, creating an active and welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, the ground floor accommodates visitor-oriented services and corporate functions such as a foyer, reception, and cafeteria. Adjacent to the reception, a publicly accessible winter garden offers a sheltered retreat, providing visitors with a view of the building’s central atrium, the surrounding square, and the harbor - ensuring a dynamic urban experience regardless of the weather.

The building’s unique form, resembling a turbine or machine part, adds an original element to Nordhavn’s already diverse architecture. A central atrium serves as a publicly accessible indoor park, where visitors can relax, work, or enjoy refreshments from a café. This hybrid space is a welcoming addition to Nordhavn’s architectural scene. - Holger Dahl, architect critic from Berlingske Newspaper
A New Public Space

As part of the transformation of Århusgadekvarteret, a completed promenade now encircles the tip of Redmolen, creating an inviting public space with seating and greenery. The preserved customs building adds a historical layer to the area and can serve as a café or ice cream kiosk, offering a charming contrast to the striking new architecture. Thoughtfully designed landscaping enhances Redmolen’s green identity, reinforcing Århusgadekvarteret’s evolution from an industrial harbor into a vibrant, nature-rich district.

Århusgadekvarteret is defined by its unique urban and cultural character, featuring a dense, low-rise building structure, monolithic architecture, and a diverse range of public spaces. The tip of Redmolen, with its sweeping views of Øresund and Copenhagen’s northern harbor, stands as one of several distinctive landmarks in the district. Situated within Nordhavn, Redmolen marked the first phase of the area’s expansion, introducing 350,000 square meters of residential and commercial space—laying the foundation for a new, dynamic urban environment.
